Vito Scarafile stopped by East Cooper Meals on Wheels on Dec. 19 with a donation of $200 and several bags of pet food. The 8-year-old boy had previously helped his mom, Julie Scarafile, deliver meals and wanted to know how he could help. Vito discovered one of the organization’s greatest needs was for pet food. So he started collecting money and pet food from his family and neighbors. He canvassed his neighborhood, asking people to donate pet food and explaining that many East Cooper Meals on Wheels recipients have pets to keep them company but can’t get out often to purchase pet food and may feed their meal to their pet. Vito ended up collecting 63 pounds of pet food.
