Retirement is typically viewed as a well deserved time of rest and relaxation from the grind of everyday life. As for many senior veterans it can be a difficult and trying time as they try to socially occupy themselves while dealing with the stresses that come post-service.

Senior veterans in the East Cooper community who are still struggling with this process of assimilation can take solace because South Carolina as a state is ranked one of the best places for military retirees, fifth in the country according to a 2018 WalletHub study. The consensus of local veteran affiliations said the cutoff for a senior veteran is the Vietnam War and its predecessors.
